ABOUT US
Our Story
The Genesis of Timbuktu Innovation Hub
The African Canadian Civic Engagement Council (ACCEC), founded in 2018, is a national non-profit, Black-led organization committed to empowering African-descent communities in Canada. From our base in Edmonton, Alberta, we champion advocacy, provide direct services, and conduct vital research and policy analysis.
The Timbuktu Innovation Hub, launching in August 2025, is our boldest step yet. It is born from a vision to create a Canada where communities of African descent are equal, thriving, and respected members of society. Named after the historic Malian city—a vibrant center of learning, culture, and trade in Africa —our Hub aims to be a modern sanctuary of knowledge and innovation. We draw inspiration from this rich heritage, including the profound symbolism of African basket weaving, where individual strands unite to create something strong, beautiful, and functional—much like our vision for our community.
